O álbum «Last Splash» do grupo norte-americano The Breeders completa este mês duas décadas.

Foi editado no dia 31 de Agosto de 1993.                    

A casa-mãe, a editora independente britânica 4AD, celebra a data com uma edição de luxo do disco que confirmou a banda de Kim Deal (oriunda dos Pixies) como uma aposta forte e fortemente ganha pela label independente mais famosa do mundo.

Eram os tempos ascendentes da ala americana da casa sediada em Alma Road, Londres.

A sucursal norte-americana da 4AD situa-se na cidade de Los Angeles, na Califórnia.

The Breeders estiveram há pouco tempo no Porto, onde actuaram no Festival Primavera Sound deste ano.

Remembering 70’s

CLIMAX BLUES BAND 

 

Ano de 1976. O grupo britânico Climax Blues Band, fundado em 1968, faz explodir o êxito “Couldn’t Get it Right”. Fez as delícias das danças nocturnas até ao ano seguinte em inúmeras Hot Summer Nights. Foi nº 10 no Reino Unido durante nove semanas e nº3 nos Estados Unidos durante vinte e duas semanas. 

Nas imagens que se seguem, a inexorável passagem do tempo:

Primeiro, no ano de sucesso da canção, com vasta exposição na Televisão e na Rádio.

No segundo vídeo, a inevitável passagem pelo programa «Top of the Pops» da BBC, com a banda a atingir os píncaros do sucesso.

No terceiro vídeo (2004), décadas depois – com os anos em cima de toda a gente –, o líder Colin Cooper a carregar já a doença que o levaria à morte quatro anos mais tarde, aos 68 anos de idade (fez cinco anos no passado dia 3 de Julho).

Os anos 70 do Século XX produziram fenómenos musicais de muito mau gosto, mas também pérolas inesquecíveis. Esta é uma delas.

No quarto e último videoclip, temos a curiosa versão dos norte-americanos Fun Lovin’ Criminals, em 1999, no tema de abertura do álbum «Mimosa». A inconfundível deep smooth voice de Huey Morgan vale toda a cover.

A actuação na TV ao vivo, com som directo, ocorreu no programa do ex-futebolista Ian Whright (foi um dos históricos do Arsenal de Londres e titular da Selecção Inglesa).

O tempo passa demasiado depressa para quem quer viver!

DCD – World Tour 2012-2013

Na passada noite de Sábado terminou a digressão mundial dos Dead Can Dance 

A Anastasis World Tour iniciou-se em Agosto de 2012 na cidade de Vancouver, no Canadá, e encerrou em Santiago do Chile dia 13 deste mês.
Em cerca de um ano foram 88 concertos em 22 países (Portugal incluído) em 4 continentes. Só África ficou de fora. Foi a maior digressão mundial de sempre dos Dead Can Dance em mais de três décadas de vida. «Anastasis» é o álbum de originais mais bem sucedido da banda em apenas um ano (hoje em dia todos os anteriores continuam a ter procura) e chegou a disco de ouro na Polónia.
Dos quase noventa concertos, três tiveram lugar em Portugal. Pela primeira vez os Dead Can Dance tocaram ao vivo no Porto e em Lisboa.
A Anastasis World Tour fez duas voltas na América do Norte, duas voltas na América do Sul e outras duas na Europa. Os Dead Can Dance actuaram na Austrália que os viu nascer, pela primeira vez em vinte anos.

Todas as metas anteriores foram ultrapassadas pela dupla Lisa Gerrard e Brendan Perry. Mas surge agora a questão mais inquietante de todas: e a partir daqui?
Lisa Gerrard regressará à bucólica quinta nas montanhas azuis no sul da sua Austrália natal. Brendan Perry à igreja/casa/estúdio em Quivvy na sua ancestral Irlanda. Mas o que se seguirá? Mais um hiato dos Dead Can Dance, ou novo disco de originais para breve?
A experiência anterior na longa carreira dos Dead Can Dance mostrou que tanto um novo hiato, mais ou menos prolongado, ou um novo trabalho de originais, mais menos breve, podem acontecer.
Sabe-se igualmente que ambos poderão regressar, mas em nome próprio, retomando as respectivas carreiras a solo.
É também do conhecimento dos apreciadores mais informados que material novo para editar é coisa que não falta aos Dead Can Dance.
O que falta mesmo é saber o que se seguirá. Até agora, nem uma notícia.
